"Every now and again, I enjoy listening to some Icelandic tunes but it hasn’t been on my playlist lately. Just a couple of weeks ago, we were in the Scottish Highlands for the first time and I couldn’t help but notice the Nordic influence. Apparently the name Skye (Isle of Skye) is a combination of Norse words ‘ský’ (meaning clouds) and ‘ye’ (meaning island) which translates as Island of Clouds.
Now back at work and missing the magnificent and glorious nature there is in the Highlands, Ásgeir is a natural choice for me with his harmonious vocals and instruments that emanates nostalgia.
My top four songs from this album are Summer Guest, King and Cross, Torrent, and Going Home. While you explore this talented singer-songwriter, I will suggest you have a listen to Youth, and Eventide from his latest album ‘Bury The Moon’ which was launched this year. Both the ‘In The Silence’ and ‘Bury The Moon’ albums have an Icelandic version too."
About the artist
Hailing from Reykjavik, Iceland, singer-songwriter Ásgeir constantly tops the Icelandic charts with his blend of folk and electronica. Becoming an instant hit in his own country (it’s estimated that up to 10% of the population of Iceland own his debut album), he was quickly snapped up by the One Little Indian record label (the same as Icelandic superstar Bjork).
About the album
Ásgeir’s second studio album ‘In The Silence’ (an English language version of his first album ‘Dýrð í dauðaþögn’ features a slew of intimate, soulful indie electronic songs and atmospheric folk. Highlights include ‘Going Home’, ‘In The Silence’ and ‘Kings and Cross’.
