We’re pleased to announce that the new Monitor Audio Studio 89 speakers have been awarded 'Outstanding Product' by Mark Craven from Hi-Fi News. In his detailed review, Craven praised both the design and performance of the Studio 89, calling it “smartly styled” and highlighting its “appealing contrast between the gloss black cabinets and the gold-coloured drivers.”
Craven was equally impressed with the engineering behind the speaker. He praised the slender design and the use of RDT III bass/mid drivers, which create an unexpectedly “deep, resonant low end” despite the compact size. The innovative HiVe II slot ports and MPD III tweeter were also commended for their contribution to the speaker’s precision and clarity, delivering a listening experience that was “thrillingly present” and “mesmerising, with insight, subtlety, and scale.”
In terms of sound performance, Craven highlighted the Studio 89’s “punchy low-end, dynamic attack, and good detail retrieval”, making it an ideal speaker for any music genre. He particularly noted the “wide-reaching soundstage” that offered an “enveloping performance,” giving smaller spaces the feel of a much larger listening environment. Whether playing classical or rock, he found the Studio 89 to provide “a fun listen” with "plenty of clarity” and immersive sound quality.
