Spotlight: Designing Vestra Subwoofer Series

6th May 2025

Posted in: Articles | Product News

We sit down with Product Design Manager Matt Sharp to discuss his input in the creation of the Vestra Subwoofer series and what makes it so special.

Briefly introduce yourself and your role at Monitor Audio.

I'm the Product Design Manager at MAG. I manage our excellent in-house Product Design Team and the delivery of our outstanding products from the department.

What were the key design goals for the Vestra subwoofers, and how did they influence the final product?

We wanted to successfully continue the minimal aesthetic from our Anthra Subwoofers through into this range while giving them their own identity. Features such as the fixed grille on the design helped us achieve this.

Were there any particular challenges during the design and development phase, and how did you and the team overcome them?

When you are a performance-led company and designing at a more accessible price point, every decision is critical. We followed the same meticulous process for this project, working extremely hard to distil the elements we added and refine the proportions to fit perfectly into your space.

What inspirations or influences played a role in shaping the look and feel of the Vestra subwoofers?

These are an extension of our Anthra Subwoofers so this naturally influenced our thinking. Alongside this, we considered all the use cases for these subwoofers and how best to meet those needs through the design.

Which Monitor Audio Group products pair best with the Vestra subwoofers in both sound and aesthetics?

We've deliberately designed these to be a visually sympathetic design, so it naturally works well with many of them. It's a timeless design, so it will continue to sit seamlessly into your system for a long period of time. From an acoustic point of view, these naturally complement Bronze, Silver, and Creator extremely well.

Were there any specific design decisions made to improve ease of installation or room integration?

One that springs to mind is designing both the Vestra W10 and W12 as sealed units. This helps integrate them into tighter spaces and even allows them to be fitted into cabinets or furniture if desired.

How do you see the future of subwoofer design evolving, and how does Vestra fit into that vision?

I feel consumers are more aware of the benefits a subwoofer can bring to their system. Vestra has been designed to bring you into the world of dedicated subwoofers for systems and enhance your listening experience. It's a design and performance standard that will sit within your system now or can be built upon in the future. Ultimately giving you years of great audio performance and enjoyment.
