The video gaming industry is entering a new phase of transformation, and despite undergoing a period of adjustment, 2026 looks very bright.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Mario Kart World, and Split Fiction were huge hits in 2025. Fans have plenty to be excited about over the coming 12 months, with the likes of Marvel's Wolverine, Fable and Resident Evil Requiem.
Though companies have tightened policies on AI usage, it’s clear that the majority of developers will be using it wherever possible to improve efficiency. With one in ten game developers laid off in the last 12 months, a shift in improving existing games over launching brand-new titles was reported. Cloud gaming services continue to be a success, now becoming a standard feature, with major networks investing in their subscription services.
With prices steadily rising, the prospect of £100 base-priced games is a real possibility with the blockbuster AAA release of Grand Theft Auto VI this winter, likely to command such a figure. The hope is that this will not become industry standard, though there are plenty of other games to look forward to in 2026.
