Our top 10 anticipated games for 2026

2nd January 2026

Posted in: Articles

The video gaming industry is entering a new phase of transformation, and despite undergoing a period of adjustment, 2026 looks very bright.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Mario Kart World, and Split Fiction were huge hits in 2025. Fans have plenty to be excited about over the coming 12 months, with the likes of Marvel's Wolverine, Fable and Resident Evil Requiem.

Though companies have tightened policies on AI usage, it’s clear that the majority of developers will be using it wherever possible to improve efficiency. With one in ten game developers laid off in the last 12 months, a shift in improving existing games over launching brand-new titles was reported. Cloud gaming services continue to be a success, now becoming a standard feature, with major networks investing in their subscription services.

With prices steadily rising, the prospect of £100 base-priced games is a real possibility with the blockbuster AAA release of Grand Theft Auto VI this winter, likely to command such a figure. The hope is that this will not become industry standard, though there are plenty of other games to look forward to in 2026.

Please check out our top 10 anticipated games for 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and more.

Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom | Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S

In the ninth main game of the Resident Evil series, FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft is dispatched to investigate a series of strange deaths at the Wrenwood Hotel, where her mother, Alyssa, died 8 years prior. The story is set in Raccoon City, about 30 years after its destruction in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Developed using the RE Engine, the survival horror game has a release date of 27th February.

007 First Light

IO Interactive | Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S

Following the commercial failure of 007 Legends (2012), Bond returns for his promising origin story. The game follows a young and inexperienced MI6 agent, who is tasked with a mission that will grant him his 00 status. Featuring well-known Bond characters such as M, Q, and Miss Moneypenny, IO Interactive hopes that 007 First Light will lead to a potential trilogy of games – the first releasing on 27th March.

Saros

Housemarque | PlayStation 5

From the creators of the award-winning Returnal comes Saros, a new haunting shooter. Set on a mysterious and hostile planet, it follows a Soltari Enforcer as he investigates a lost off-world colony. Played from a third-person perspective, you play as Arjun Devraj on the search for Soltari Holograms to help uncover the events that have unfolded on the planet Carcosa. Sony has set a release date of 20th March.

Fable

Playground Games | Windows, Xbox Series X/S

Set in the fictional world of Albion, the game is positioned as a reboot, with Playground Games aiming to update the series with contemporary gameplay mechanics and visuals, targeting a new generation of players. The story will be centred on a hero named Humphry, who “will be forced out of retirement when a mysterious figure from his past threatens Albion’s very existence.” Fable is set to release in Q4.

Forza Horizon 6

Playground Games | Windows, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5

The newest instalment of the award-winning Horizon racing series is due for release in Q4. The fourteenth main instalment in the Forza franchise overall will be set in Japan. With the dynamic weather system from previous entries, players will be able to take on mountainous roads and open fields across locations such as Mount Fuji, Hokkaido, and Tokyo across a sprawling open world.

Judas

Ghost Story Games | PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S

Judas is the debut title for Ghost Story Games, the team behind the critically acclaimed BioShock series. Judas takes place on Mayflower, a generation ship travelling through space carrying the last remnants of humanity to Proxima Centauri – the nearest star to Earth after the Sun. Originally scheduled for March, it is now likely to be released in Q4.

State of Decay 3

Undead Labs | Windows, and Xbox Series X/S

Like the previous entries in the series, you must carve out a life for your community of survivalist homesteaders during a zombie apocalypse in this open-world survival game from Undead Labs. Likely to release late in Q4, the game builds on the foundation of its predecessor in a "much larger, truly shared open world”.

Marvel's Wolverine

Insomniac Games | PlayStation 5

From Insomniac Games, the developers of the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, comes Marvel’s Wolverine. This action-adventure game follows James "Logan" Howlett as Wolverine, who is searching for answers about his past, tearing through anyone and anything that steps in his way. The game, which shares continuity with Insomniac's other Marvel games, is due for release in Q4.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Screen Burn | PlayStation 5

A spin-off of the Silent Hill franchise, Townfall is intended to launch an anthology series, with each episode telling a standalone story. Cryptic imagery and subliminal messages in the Konami livestream indicated that Alessa, from the original Silent Hill (1999) game, will be part of the new story. Set in the same universe as P.T., the horror game set in dense fog and darkness is due for release in Q2.

Grand Theft Auto VI

Rockstar Games | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

GTA VI is set in the open-world state of Leonida—based on Florida—and its Miami-inspired Vice City. You take control of a criminal duo evading custody on a crime-fueled odyssey, taking in the sights and sounds of Leonida. Probably the most anticipated game of the last decade, its map is rumoured to surpass the vast expanse of Red Dead Redemption 2 and now has a launch date of 19th November.
