For over two decades, the Silver Series has been the Monitor Audio range that most people encounter first and return to most often. It is one of our best-selling ranges because it has consistently delivered something that listeners didn’t expect to find: genuinely moving sound and beautifully designed cabinets.
As we introduce the Silver Series 8G, it’s worth understanding how that reputation was built and what it tells us about where Monitor Audio is headed.
Silver began in 1999 as a statement of ambition, and it carried the full weight of Monitor Audio’s engineering philosophy: that premium audio didn’t have to be unattainable. Built around the then-new C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) technology and a distinctive metal dome gold tweeter, it offered audiophile-grade bass reproduction and effortless dynamics that outperformed anything typically found at this level.
RS Series launched in 2005, it didn’t just refine what came before; it broke records. Enormous international acclaim, industry awards, including a What Hi-Fi Product of the Year, and sales figures that exceeded anything the range had achieved to that point. The RS introduced Gold C-CAM drivers and tweeters across the lineup, bringing a more natural and transparent sound quality, alongside a bolder, more architectural visual identity that signalled Monitor Audio’s growing confidence in what Silver could be. It remains one of the most celebrated chapters in the range’s history.
Silver has consistently been the range where Monitor Audio’s most significant engineering advances have been made accessible to the widest possible audience.
This became explicit with the fifth generation in 2013, when the Silver Series drew direct inspiration from the Platinum range, Monitor Audio’s flagship line, introducing HiVe port technology and the new C-CAM tweeter to deliver a wider, more accurate frequency response than anything the range had offered before. The expertise developed at the very top of Monitor Audio’s engineering was no longer something only a select few could experience.
By the time the Silver Series 7G arrived in 2021, the range had become something more than its component parts. The brief for that generation was almost philosophical: speakers that speak to you.
Sonically, 7G delivered a level of clarity and detail that made well-loved tracks feel fresh again. Its clean lines and balanced proportions blended effortlessly into modern living spaces, while real-wood finishes, including Ash and Natural Walnut, added a sense of warmth that carried through from the cabinet to the sound itself.
Following the success of the Silver 7G range, in 2022, Silver was chosen as the vehicle to mark Monitor Audio’s 50th anniversary with the Silver 100 7G Limited Edition, finished in Heritage Green with an anodised gold C-CAM bass driver.
This really showed that the Silver Series had become something people lived with and connected to, not just something they listened to.
The Silver Series 8G is the product of everything learned across more than twenty-seven years and eight generations. Hear more, feel more, and expect more from the music you love. Silver Series 8G is the most capable Silver series ever.
