We spoke to Instagram follower @tyler.cole.tuszynski about his audio equipment, record collection and his favourite album
When did you start collecting records?
I started about 6 years ago. I was getting tired of digital music and the loss of full albums as pieces of art. Everyone was chasing that one single hit. I like the physicality of pulling down an LP, placing the album on the turntable, dropping the needle. It is traditional and ritualistic. It feels like it pays more respect to the art and artist.
What is your favourite record?
I have ton that sound great or have particular cache w/in the community, but for pure love of the band, the music, the quirkiness of it all, I would have to say my favourite is my limited edition Talking Heads “Stop Making Sense” – music from the film. I also can't go too long without putting Springsteen's “Darkness on the Edge of Town”, Cursive's “The Ugly Organ”, or Radiohead's “Kid A” on.
Who is your favourite artist/band?
This is probably difficult for most anyone who listens to music regularly. I can't name just one, but I can name a few that are never far from a spin on my turntable: Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead, Sturgill Simpson, Johnny Cash, and R.E.M.
What is your favourite music based magazine?
Quite different than my view of the music itself, I am not much of a fan of physical print magazines. I follow music and gear online via Stereophile, Alternative Press, American Songwriter, and I read Pitchfork to laugh at their saltiness.
