We spoke to Instagram follower @carlscott94 about his audio equipment, record collection and his favourite album
When did you start collecting records?
I was always exposed to music from a fairly young age through my parents and relations. My parents gave me a ‘music centre’ for my bedroom when I was around 12/13 (1982 ish) as they had upgraded theirs. Before that it was cassettes.
What is your favourite record?
I don’t think I could ever narrow it down to one! Music is so emotive and dependant on mood or surroundings it can change daily, it’s like being asked to pick your favourite child.
Standouts that get more than their fair share of plays are:
The Jam ‘Sound Affects
Paul Weller ‘Paul Weller’
The Beatles ‘Abbey Road’
Nick Drake ‘Bryter Layter’
Inspiral Carpets ‘Life’
The Moons ‘Life on Earth’
Steve Pilgrim ‘Pixels and Paper’
Palma Violets –‘180’
Frank Turner ‘England Keep My Bones’
I could go on....
Who is your favourite artist/band?
Without a doubt Paul Weller! Someone that has been part of and in a lot of ways the soundtrack to my life. I was hooked from the first time I heard The Jam whilst at school and that still applies today. Such an incredible writer and musician who is always evolving, he keeps his fans on their toes as you never know what the next album will bring and his sound is ever changing with no two albums being alike.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions and he has always been an absolute gent, they say never meet your heroes, that certainly doesn’t apply in this case.
What is your favourite music based magazine?
I’m not a regular music magazine buyer if I’m honest. I will buy ‘Mojo’ if there is a feature on a band or artist that I am interested in. Other than that I will check online blogs.
