Corinne Bailey Rae | Black Rainbows Music
In a remarkable switch in style, English singer Corinne Bailey Rae returns for her fourth studio album. Complex, but cohesive, the wonderful mix of layers show the artistic freedom she has on Black Rainbows. Seven years since her last release, her latest record was inspired by artist Theaster Gates’ work on Black history, which "summoned thoughts about slavery, spirituality, beauty, survival, hope and freedom”. Themes from her punk-rock past seem to transform Bailey Rae’s sound, and mixing in some jazz and R&B provides some exceptional results.
The Chemical Brothers | EMI
Electronic music duo the Chemical Brothers introduce For That Beautiful Feeling, their psychedelic tenth studio album. 28 years since their debut release, the duo are still as imaginative as ever, offering catchy, joyous and at times, emotional songs, for a truly transcendent and infectious sound. Groovy, energetic and full of nostalgia, alongside Halo Maud and Beck, the musical pioneers provide an immersive experience on their triumphant return and a solid entry in the Chemical Brothers' discography.
Róisín Murphy | Ninja Tune
Róisín Murphy is at the top of her game on Hit Parade, the Irish singer-songwriters sixth solo studio album. Its a well layered record and Róisín sets the tone early on, offering a fantastic fusion of moods and atmospheres on her wildest release yet. Unique and contemporary, DJ Koze provides masterful production across 13 flamboyant tracks, providing the perfect partner for Róisín’s relentless energy. Wonderfully creative and refreshingly different. For fans of electro dance pop, look no further.
Slowdive | Dead Oceans
It’s a wonderfully measured return for English rock band Slowdive on their fifth studio album, Everything Is Alive. With distorted guitars, dreamy and mellow vocals over driving rhythms, the album is a beautiful landscape of alluring melodies, encompassed across eight alluring tracks. Since reforming in 2014, the band have seen their fanbase grow significantly and despite it being their first album in six years, its clear that nobody does it better, when it comes to shoegaze music, than Slowdive.
Tinashe | Nice Life Recording Company
Talented Zimbabwean-American singer Tinashe takes a break from acting to release BB/ANG3L, her seductive sixth studio album. Inspired by the concept of identity, Tinashe tells her unique stories across seven sleek, hard-hitting tracks. Talking about her latest release, Tinashe said “I want it to feel like this album is whispering in your ear,”. With elements of electronic, pop, R&B and trap, the skilled singer shows her incredible versatility and consistency that will keep speakers blaring for quite some time.
