We spoke to Instagram follower @timothy.harper01 about his audio equipment, record collection and his favourite album
When did you start collecting records?
I first started collecting records in 1983, when I left school. I did have a few albums and singles before that, as I was in to the punk bands, but as a kid I never looked after them.
When CD took off and vinyl disappeared, I started playing them, but always felt there was something missing. But even today, as vinyl has made a great come back, I still find it difficult to get the records I want, as I listen to a lot of independent bands.
What is your favourite record?
French cold wave group Trisomie 21 ‘Plays the Pictures’ from 1989, as it was a stand out record for me and I’ve only seen the copy that I own. Also Bruce Springsteen ‘Born to Run’ was a fantastic LP.
Who is your favourite artist/band?
In the early days I was a fan of the punk bands like the Sex Pistols, The Damned and The Clash, but in all honesty I keep coming back to Bruce Springsteen, as he has made some fantastic records. Also, I’m a fan of The Rolling Stones, their early stuff was great and seeing them live was a fantastic experience.
What is your favourite music based magazine?
Over the years I’ve read a lot of different magazines like ‘Melody Maker’ and ‘NME’, but recently I’m into ‘Long Live Vinyl’ as it talks about past and present, different record shops and hi-fi reviews. I also buy ‘What Hi-Fi?’.
