We spoke to Instagram follower @neilnevleighton about his audio equipment, record collection and his favourite album

When did you start collecting records?

I have only recently started to collect records. When I was growing up, cassette tapes were the go to music source, then CD’s. I bought this Pro-Ject turntable when my Dad purchased one about 18 months ago. At some point in the future, I plan to get a Pro-Ject Signature 10. I have always been interested in music but never really experienced vinyl that much, it’s definitely addictive that’s for sure.

What is your favourite record?

Most of my day-to-day listening is sourced through the likes of Apple Music or Spotify, however I usually find myself hearing something I like and straight away searching for it on vinyl. This is exactly what I’ve just done with the Freya Ridings album ‘Live at Omeara’, which is currently my favourite record.

My favourite vinyl I have, which gets played quite a lot and really makes the system sing, is Alison Moyet’s debut studio album ‘Alf’, released in 1984.

Who is your favourite artist/band?

The funny thing is, when I was a child, the music my parents used to play didn’t really appeal to me much until later on in life, when you find yourself listening to all them tracks and actually liking them more than newer stuff.

My favourite artist is probably Alison Moyet, which may sound a little odd for someone in their late 30’s! My Wife thinks I’m a little crazy and doesn’t really get the hi-fi thing, but I always knew I had good hearing and always wanted a good hi-fi system, which will only get better from now on.

What is your favourite music based magazine?

As for music magazines, I don’t tend to read them anymore.
