We spoke to Instagram follower @cuba.salabarriap about his audio equipment, record collection and his favourite album
When did you start collecting records?
Well, i've always been interested in vinyl. When I was living in Cuba and I was little, my Dad collected a bunch of vinyl records with a Soviet record player. When the USSR fell, the turntable fell into disuse. When I arrived in Chile in 2015 I bought an old turntable and fixed it, that's where I started to collect. At the moment, I have about 70 vinyls and have changed my equipment a lot.
What is your favourite record?
My favourite record in my collection is The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", in a limited picture edition of Capitol (1978), with an incredible sound. It was my 3rd purchase and a big stroke of luck to find it.
Who is your favourite artist/band?
It is a difficult question for someone who listens to many genres and collects music. I would say that The Beatles is my favourite band but I love progressive rock, artists like Devin Townsend, Pink Floyd, Gojira and Steve Wilson. Any of these could be my favourite artist.
What is your favourite music based magazine?
When I was living in Cuba, due to the limited amount available to me, I read Cuban metal magazines such as Cuba Metal or Scriptorium, also the occasional Metal Hammer magazine from Spain. My friends recommendations have always been extremely helpful.
In Chile, fortunately the specialised buying and selling groups and forums in social networks have helped me with my audio knowledge. In the case of Monitor Audio, it was a recommendation from a friend when I was looking for new speakers to improve my audio system.
