Based at our Head Office in Rayleigh, Essex, Monitor Audio Group have a new permanent position for an experienced and creative Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our multi-disciplined R&D team covering three home audio brands. Reporting to the Product Design Director and Design Manager you will take a technical led on mechanical aspects of our electro-mechanical projects as well as working on innovative mechanically led projects within our passive audio products.

Working within the industrial product design team the ideal candidate will be comfortable working within a creative, visually lead group of individuals, delivering innovative, robust mechanical solutions, suitable for reliable and consistent manufacture. A background in consumer product development is beneficial with clear understanding of delivering a product to market, from concept to production. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of designing functional electro-mechanical products, involving moulded or cast components, ergonomics, mechanisms & motors.

Candidates should be Degree qualified or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or BSc/BEng in Product Design. They should have the ability to deliver solutions by evaluating different technologies and provide recommendations to the larger Research and Development team with backup analysis and creative understanding. In addition, they will need to show evidence of delivering cost effective designs to specification and meeting engineering standards such as drawing & change management.

Education & Work Experience

  • 2:1 Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent.
  • 4 or more years work experience within consumer products.

 

The candidate should possess the following skills:

Skills / Experience / Knowledge

-- Essential:

  • Strong 3D & 2D CAD skills, ideally with Autodesk Inventor (or similar), with a working knowledge of engineering drawings to BS8888
  • Experience with Multiphysics and FEA analysis tools.
  • Exceptional skills in implementing electromechanical systems into consumer products.
  • Strong understanding in creating and delivering moulded, formed, and machined component mechanisms and assemblies for mass produced consumer products. (Ranging from electromechanical interface delivery on Consumer Electronics to mounting bracketry for loudspeaker or Hi-Fi/Audio furniture solutions)

-- Good to have, not essential:

  • Understanding of Autodesk Vault drawing management software and tools.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical fixings and standards for home installation products.
  • Proven knowledge of sheet metal electronic chassis assemblies.
  • Proven knowledge of European consumer electronics supply chain.

  • Design engineering of concepts delivered by an industrial design team.
  • Delivery of work on time, communicating all risks.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge within the relevant fields.
  • Encouraging team working and the sharing of new information or knowledge within a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Developing new ideas to further progress the sound quality of our products.
  • Maintaining a strong working relationship with other teams around the business.
  • Lead mentoring & support of R&D staff in developing mechanical engineering skills.
  • Assist product & production engineering with complex issues where appropriate.
